This painting was inspired by a photograph I took many years ago, the photograph was pretty nice but I always knew it would make a nice painting someday. The print is truly stunning and I think it would liven up many locations in a home, I love the big calming sky which takes up most of the picture and the dancing orange glow on the land as the summer sun ever so slowly sets. This painting preforms really well at all times of the day, I really like looking at it at night time when our small table lamp seems to set it aglow from beneath.

I spent two days near the Yellowcraig beach in 2021 and during that time I was just awestruck by the absolutely epic evening light and dramatic skies. I hope that I brought a little of the magic home with me and I've tried to bring it to mind on this canvas. Looking forward to my next trip there.

The lighthouse on Fidra Island was built in 1885 and the island is well known as the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. I can imagine Stevenson looking out to Fidra Island on a beautiful dramatic evening, his imagination running wild.
